Weekly(ish) Food Truck Visit and Recap #1 - Twisted Catfish
For the first entry in the "Weekly(ish) Food Truck Visit and Recap," I went to the Twisted Catfish food truck. Twisted Catfish was founded in 2015 by two brothers, Neil and Tim Cour-Palais, and features cleverly twisted menu items like the asian infused "H-Ton Tacos," which is a play on wonton nachos, and also the artery clogging "Filthy Cat Taco" ...it's topped with freaking mac n cheese, bacon, and sirarcha mayo. For my meal(s) I opted for two menu choices - the "Catfish Basket" and the "Not So Filthy Cat Tacos."

Two - it was a pretty damn good catfish basket.
The basket came with a nice dose of french fries, hush puppies, and two HUGE catfish fillets. The blackening seasoning had a good spice, a solid crunch, and an added touch of what I think may have been lime salt. I may be way off on that, but whatever it was, the intermittent punch of lime/tartness brought the flavor of the fried fillets to a whole different level. I am stealing the lime salt idea next time I have (or go to) a fish fry.
I had to get the "Not So Filthy Cat Tacos" because if I ate anything fried following the basket I may have gone into a filthy fried catfish coma. The grilled catfish tacos were light, but filling; simple, but flavorful. The creamy cilantro sauce was the star of the basket to go alongside the already stated very good blackening seasoning on the grilled catfish. The only knock I have is the flour tortillas. Street tacos should only be served with corn tortillas.
Overall, I was very happy with the meal(s) I had at Twisted Catfish and believe the food truck is well worth a visit. In this every-growing and diverse food truck scene in Houston, Twisted Catfish did a great job of doing something different to set them a part from the pack with their twisted takes on otherwise normal foods. Twisted Catfish is just one of many food trucks in this amazing city that we call home and we are excited and determined to visit each and every one of the rest (no matter how long it takes!)... one bite at a time.
